This is a new gallery that opened in LA, it is run by the talented artist Logan Maxwell Hagege and his brother. I am very excited to be showing with these amazing artists.

Insight gallery was kind enough to put our paintings
in their latest ad in SW art magazine Feb 2013 issue

"Man from India"  oil on canvas  8 by 6

"Yellow Turbin"  oil on canvas  12 by 10

The painting below will be published in a Northlight book later this year. I will have a chapter showing this painting in progress and a showcase of some of my other paintings. My chapter will discuss Light and Form

"Veiled Beauty"  oil on canvas  14 by 11

This is a painting of my friend, the wonderful artist Rachel Constantine. Scott and I visited her and Diane Feissel last year, we had the best time playing dress up with the two of them. I have so many photos I would like to paint from that session. It is very hard to paint someone you care about, you never think it looks like them. They are both such beautiful ladies, if they only had beards it would be a lot easier.

This is a painting I did of a Nick Bragg a local historian in Winston - Salem , NC. He is a true character, it was fun to paint him because he tells the best stories. I filmed a bunch of the portrait sketches I did in our Studio in Winston - Salem and we put them in this video.  click here to see the promo

"Yanka"  pastel on paper  22 by 17

One of our favorite models, she is 13 here, I had such a hard time trying to get that age right. I make everyone look so sweet and innocent, someday I will do one that brings out the exotic in her. Scott is able to capture the strength in models I tend to emphasize the softness.

My Favorite things

Some of my favorite new radio shows I've been listening to and books I've been reading.

Since this is my blog I thought I'd share what has inspired me lately, more paintings and travel journals will come in my next post.

liloumace.com  Is an amazing website from a French women Lilou Mace who started a blog and youtube channel all about her travels and interviews with the most interesting and well know thinkers of spirituality of our time. She has more than a 1000 interviews and they are all free to watch. I got addicted to her over the holidays. She inspired me to do a big vision board, I love her energy and open heartedness.  ( is that a word?)

I learned about Louise Hay on one of Oprah's shows, she was being interviewed about a documentary made about her life titled " You can heal your life" This movie is available to stream on the internet for about $5. After watching the movie I was so moved I email a bunch of my friends to watch it also.

Louise is a truly incredible person, I learn about all the books she publishes and the internet radio station that she produces.  hayhouseradio.com  I have been glued to it the past few weeks. You can listen live to the programs for free or sign up for a yearly subscription to listen to any of the archived programs.

Some of my favorite hayhouseradio.com  hosts are

Kris Carr   Crazy sexy Wellness  - the show is all about health, she is a NY times best seller, and made an inspirational documentary for TLC that chronicled her journey from cancer to juicy healthy living. That was a quote from her bio. She is all about juicing and veggie shakes. I have really gotten into veggie shakes and can't live with out them. kriscarr.com

Gabrielle Bernstein  - she is also a NY times best seller, she is a motivational speaker and teaches The Course in Miracles. I have learned so much from her interviews with spiritual leaders, yoga masters and health and wellness experts. I take a lot of notes when I listen to her show, she shares a lot of great information about books to read and new ideas.

Dr Wayne W Dyer has a program titled Wishes Fulfilled

Dr Christiane Northrup has a program titled  Flourish  ( she is an expert on women's health)

If you want to learn about meditation there are programs titled  The meditation room and a show by Davidji, he works with Deepak Chopra's wellness center.

Some of the books I've been reading lately

The disappearance of the Universe  - Gary Renard

Crazy Sexy Diet and Crazy Sexy Kitchen by Kris Carr

Autobiography of a Yogi  by Paramhansa Yogananda  ( I read this book in 2001 when I was in Nepal, really fascinating, I wanted to read it again)

All books by Brian Weiss MD  his first book "Many lives, Many Masters"  all about past lives was ground breaking. He has written many books such as " Same Soul, Many Bodies"  You will not be able to put them down.

I loved " A Room of One's Own" and " To the Light house"  by Virginia Woolf.  My knees would buckle at some of her passages.

An interesting series from the 1800's is  "Life and Teaching of the Masters of the Far East" by Baird T. Spalding. I think there are 6 books in that series.

"Color: A natural history of the palette"  by Victoria Finlay

A friend recommend Eat, Pray, Love by Elisabeth Gilbert to me, at first I was a little hesitant, but I am glad I did. I read it while I was on a trip to Guatemala last November, it was much better than I thought it would be.

"The Creation of Health" by Caroline Myss and C. Norman Shealy, MD.  She is a medical intuitive and he is a doctor, they have worked together since the mid 80's and have written several books together. She has a fascination philosophy on why people don't heal. There is a lot of great videos of her talks on her website and youtube. www.myss.com

I started reading "A Course in Miracles" but was having a hard time because it is a very intense to get through. I heard an interview on Gabrielle Bernstein's radio program where she interviewed Gary Renard, his book talks about ACIM's. His book is really intense also, I have to take breaks and sometimes I feel physically and emotional overwhelmed.

I loved Jean Houston's  " The Wizard of Us"  transformational lessons from OZ  - She worked with Joseph Campbell and talks a lot about myths.

This is just a small sampling of what has been in my head the last few months.

My favorite new radio channel is Spa 068 on Sirrius satilite radio. The name Spa doesn't work, the music is very eclectic, I learn about music from all over the world. I absolutely love it when I'm driving.

Check out Elena Brower she has 3 websites  virayoga.com  www.artofattention.com and www.yogaglo.com.  She is my new hero

A radio program that both Scott and I love is www.radiolab.org  If you want something to listen to that is creative, informative and smart this is the show for you. It is produced in NY for WNYC

I will post my favorite things occasionally, I love learning about new ideas, so I should share the new ideas that come to me through other people.
